Summary

The relief conditions the movement of water and the variability of soil attributes, so it is important to map the relief compartments to understand the pedological processes and erosion factors. The objective of this work was to study the spatial variability of soil attributes, erosion and magnetic susceptibility of a slope of the municipality of Gilbués-PI, considered the Brazilian municipality with the largest continuous area of desertification. Soil samples were collected in a transect of 2,750 meters in the slope and in three meshes at regular intervals of 25 and 10 meters, respectively. In total, 451 samples were collected at a depth of 0.00-0.20 m. Samples were submitted to granulometric and chemical analyzes and magnetic susceptibility (SM). To estimate erosion, the Universal Soil Loss Equation (EUPS) was used. The results were submitted to statistical and geostatistical analyzes and suggest that magnetic susceptibility is an efficient attribute in understanding the cause and effect relationships of spatial variability of soil attributes and erosion factors, in the context of the soil-relief relationship.
